Issue with FA Draft & Preseason IL

PreviousPage 2 of 2

We can restart the draft, but it’s ridiculous to say Chris we need a new rule when we discussed this last year. And now you’re using this to your advantage and to say this can’t be implemented until 2028 is simply selfish bullshit and unacceptable and is just proof you are manipulating spirit of the rule to your own advantage.

Thank you to everyone for your support for a new rule next season.

I’m also going to propose every rule be written out to avoid anyone trying to use loopholes that violate the spirit of the rule.

I will pick this afternoon.

I understand I am late with my response. I do want to give my support to Jason. I completely agree with him. Also to Steve and Matt. I have 3 players who are starting the year on the IL. prior to the draft even starting, I added them for transparency and because I think it’s the right thing to do

Feels like this issue should be addressed now before moving forward. I didn't realize honestly but it's been brought up by multiple players in this thread.

I know I have to clean up my lists. Nothing intentional. Just some bookkeeping stuff but still I know I need to take care of it

Ultimately, I love you guys and love this league. I'm fine with whatever you guys want to do

okay so I'm not reading through all of this in the middle of the workday but here is my opinion which seems to be some of both sides

  1. Given our Pre-season IL rule below, many of the guys in question should not be on pre-season IL. It was meant for players who are expected to miss the start of the season. News reports should indicate as such. It is similar to our season-ending IL which requires the same thing. Obviously there can be some vagueness in there, but it is not meant for someone who has a sore back in early February and is day to day. IF he has a sore back at the end of March and is questionable for opening day, then sure. IL+ was a new thing in our league that came after this rule (probably shouldn't have it at all but I disgress). IT was never resolved how IL+ works in the pre-season, i.e. a pre-season IL+.
  2. Given that we didn't police this, it is fair to give Chris time to trade or make moves. I will let people decide what the reasonable time is for that and if the draft continues in the meantime. I think there was some talk of a plan there and i am okay with that. Have no dog in the hunt.
  3. Teams should also not be punished if someone does come back unexpectedly early. I.e. Ted Kaiser is expected out to start the season with Tommy John. During the first round of our free agent draft, Ted gets a second opinion, Dr says no surgery, tough it out and don't be a biatch. Ted is slated to pitch opening day until his arm falls off. He shouldn't have to be unprotected in the middle of that and can be activated as his team seems fit. BUT, that team cannot add players until his IL status is resolved.

Rule 13 Pre-season DLNA:

Because actual MLB teams do not place players on the DL/NA until the start of the season and Yahoo does not add these players to the DL/NA until then, we have pre-season DL/NA slots available matching the # of regular DL spots for players injured during spring training and expected to miss the start of the season. Teams may not exceed the total # of DL/NA spots allowed for players actually on the rosterable DL/NA and the pre-season DL/NA. (i.e. if we have four DL spots which we do as of 2014, then a max. of 4 players can be on the pre-season DL. If two players are on the DL on the roster, then only two players can be on the pre-season DL). The player(s) must be placed on the actual Yahoo DL/NA during Week 2 or he is released to FA when it opens.

Chris and I have come to an agreement.

The draft will be paused until 3AM ET Sunday to give him a chance to trade and/or cut the 10 extra players he has on his roster.

Also, everyone else should look at their roster for non-injured players playing opening day on IL. This should be easy for all of us to follow.

Any non-injured player is fair game after that.

I will also give any of the teams picking in front of me a chance to change its pick if they choose to do so.

Thank you everyone for your support and Chris on your compromise and hard work for the league.

I will be authoring a post later looking to lighten his workload moving forward to feedback.

Thanks,

Jason

if you have to move someone i could have interest. let me know

Ted hit the nail on the head that how IL+ works during preseason never got resolved.

I think next January when rule change proposals open up, we can hammer out exact rules in terms of what's allowed and what's not on preseason IL.

Currently for this season, I strongly believe if Yahoo has given a player DTD or Out status that they should be allowed to be on preseason IL. Probability of a player returning by opening day can be subjective. Although this doesn't apply to me as all 10 of my players on preseason IL don't have injured status.

I discussed this with Jason and a couple other guys that I'd like to have until the end of Saturday to figure out how to clear out my preseason IL. Hopefully everybody is fine with that. I'll have time tomorrow to figure out who I want to keep and tomorrow and Saturday to hammer out trades.

And this should go for all teams, that you're expected to not have any healthy players in preseason IL by end of Saturday.

I thought it should be up to whoever is on the clock to decide if they want to post their FA pick and keep draft moving or pause until they see what I do and Jason said he wants to wait, which I think is fine. We were planning on starting FA draft tomorrow so we shouldn't be too behind schedule in doing this.

To restart the FA draft, I think that would have to be unanimous between White Sox, Jays and Royals. If no consensus, then FA Draft should stand as is.

I would vote in favor of  teams removing their healthy players from the Preseason IL and then re-starting the Free Agent Draft right from the start .

Just restart the draft Sunday morning.  But let's everyone be engaged so we can move it along. It will give us 3 full days to complete 4 rounds.
