Nolan Schanuel
Quote from Chris on August 19, 2023, 1:20 pmI'm seeing that there's a team that's put in a waiver claim on Schanuel. Per league rules, 2023 MLB draft players can't be signed in FA, even if Yahoo adds them to the website. 2023 MLB draft players will first be available in next March's prospect draft, unless a team was willing to use a prospect change to protect one early and trade them away.

Quote from Chris on August 20, 2023, 4:33 pmI'm seeing that the team that put in a waiver claim on Nolan Schanuel has not cancelled the claim. Just wanted to let that team know that if the claim isn't cancelled, you'll lose your spot in the waiver standings and Schanuel will be dropped from your team.

Quote from Joe (Rangers) on August 21, 2023, 2:31 amThe rule is you can’t sign prospects in FA - that’s the intent of the rule, to prevent stashing prospects of other orgs (which is honestly happening all over the league anyway).
If he’s MLB status and signed as FA, he is eligible to claim like every other player in the league.
Also, not sure that you’ve got unilateral authority to affect waiver claim order. If this isn’t a repeat violation, it would need to be a warning to that owner.

Quote from Chris on August 21, 2023, 2:54 amYou're incorrect.
When we moved the prospect draft from the summer to preseason, the compromise we made is that any mlb draft player from that year's draft can't be signed in FA, even if Yahoo adds them. Meaning that the first time mlb draft players are available is in next preseasons prospect draft. That's been the rule the last few years and Ted would back me up on it as I've been texting him about this.
As for the waiver claim, all you have to do is cancel it. As far as me having unilateral authority, it's not like that. What I meant is if the waiver claim isn't canceled, than Schanuel would be added and yahoo would change your place in the waiver standings to 12

Quote from Joe (Rangers) on August 21, 2023, 3:40 amNo issue from me if he’s still a prospect. But getting called up makes him an MLB guy. So without using a prospect spot, or a prospect change, you get to keep an MLB guy, not a prospect, stashed as a prospect.
It’s a prospect rule, meant to protect prospects. You’re protecting a guy without using a prospect spot or a prospect change. Don’t like it, protect him or make a waiver claim.

Quote from Joe (Rangers) on August 21, 2023, 3:53 amJust being difficult, I’ll cancel the claim.
Just an example of a half-cooked rule change getting in the way of one of the simplest things in fantasy baseball — add a big league player to my roster.
Enjoy your extra prospect spot!

Quote from Chris on August 21, 2023, 4:02 amThis was years ago, but when we made the new rules, there was nothing that said mlb draft guys can be grabbed if they're somehow called up to mlb team. The rule has been very clear that mlb draft guys can't be signed in FA and will be first available in next preseason prospect draft. Only exception is if a team like Nats wants to use a prospect change to protect one of his own mlb draft guys like Crews and trade him away. There have been no problems or questions about this rule for years now. You're a good dude Joe, I'm sorry you disagree with it. But by all means if you want to change the rule, bring it up in February and if anyone agrees with you, we can have a vote

Quote from Steve on August 21, 2023, 1:19 pmI think this change occured when we moved the Prospect Draft to Pre-Season from Mid-Season. I actually think I miss the mid-season Prospect Draft but thats me. We used to do the Prospect Draft about two weeks after the MLB Draft.

Quote from Jason on August 22, 2023, 3:26 amBlanket rule no 2023 picks can be signed as FA unless a team uses its prospect change for its own player.
It’s quite simple and shouldn’t be allowed to change. This is cleaner and simpler.
To fight it that hard is silly and a waste of time.
